Guidelines to authors wishing to publish in UK Irrigation

Status

UK Irrigation is the Journal of the United Kingdom Irrigation Association Ltd.

The first issue was published in 1981.

Aim

To inform members of the Association (and others) of developments in the UK irrigation industry, and issues influencing those developments.

To act as a reference source to students, researchers, policy makers and others studying irrigation.

Content

Well written informative articles, normally with a UK focus, but drawing on international experience where appropriate, particularly from temperate areas where irrigation is supplementary. Occasional articles on international irrigation will also be considered for publication.

Articles can cover the range of members’ interests, from water supplies and legislation through to water application methods and economics.

Articles can reflect all uses of irrigation including turf and landscape, horticulture, and agriculture.

Papers presented at the UKIA Spring Conference will normally be published, subject to meeting editorial quality criteria (see below).

Students of irrigation, and winners of the UKIA or Jack Wright Memorial Trust travel scholarships are encouraged to publish. There is an annual UKIA prize for the best article written by a student (alone, or in association with, project supervisor).

Format

Articles should not normally be more than 2000-2500 words in length (4 to 5 pages A4), together with supporting tables, figures and photographs. They must be informative, free of excessive jargon and understandable. Key references to be cited in a standard, prescribed format.

Shorter (one or two pages) topical reports are also acceptable.

Good quality photographs are always welcome (published in b & w).

Submission of papers

Anyone with knowledge of irrigation is encouraged to submit a paper to the editor for consideration: the editor will also invite papers.

All papers submitted should follow guidelines on content, length and style; all authors should refer to recent issues of UK Irrigation on layout.

Manuscripts should be submitted as hard copy, and in electronic format to the editor.

Manuscripts will be considered at any time.

UK Irrigation is normally published once, sometimes twice, a year.

Papers that are overtly commercial in content will not be accepted.

The editor will invite referees to comment on papers when necessary.

Please submit manuscripts to
